    TD5 out it comes

Some of you might remember all the hassles I had with my td5
well after blowing 2 more turbos its coming out. I've wasted to
much on it now, so its coming out and a 3.9V8 & auto is going
in. I was going to change brands after all the trouble I've had
but after looking around I still like the car & its great for work
but its needs to be reliable. So instead of paying 30plus for
a toy or nissian I thought I'd get the car I want..
    Should be the only 2000 defender 130 with a V8 & auto & nice
note Its happening over christmas holidays so should be
ready for the new year... all going well.. yes I'm sure there will
be a few head aches... All ready got the motor & auto, heads,
cam etc. are being done now ready to go in, should be nice.
Will up date as it goes..
    Jeff

    Good luck Jeff.
What do you do with the dash electronics????
Are they not all linked with the TD5 computer???
Im sure I read here before if you ditch the TD5 ALL the dash electronics go too.
Will watch this one with interest
Hope it works out for you.

Sounds like an interesting conversion. That defender is really going to scream. Would be fun to see the look on other defender drivers and Disco drivers when you blow the away at the lights.

GO for it!!! and post up all your work with plenty of pix.

I LOVE my Defender - just not made my mind up about the TD5 yet, or is it the manual gearbox!!!

Bring on the D100 with the V8 EFI Auto , thats when I get around to finishing it.

Hey Andy, if its a D130 then there should be no traction control / ABS etc and the speedo works off the electronic driver on the transfer (like later Disco 1s).

The rest is just matching up senders with gauges - but I would personally dump the LR/VDO ones and get the VDO ones with correct calibrations, also allowing linear temp gauge etc.

    Just my 10c

Will the 3.9 pass emissions? Perhaps you'll need to use an injected 4.0 or 4.6.

But it will be very very sweet.

ahh but whats happening to the old TD5?.....

anychance of parting it out for experimentaion and duplication?

I have some experiments I want to run on the thing to find out how "tolerant" of some of my butcher fix ideas it will be and Id rather not have to find out first hand in the real world broken down on the side of the road......

3.9 and 4.0s are basically the same motor (just cross bolted blocks) its all in the EFI that made it pass the emissions
