That's because you AU is 157 kw and well under two tonne whilst the Disco is 138 kw and over two tonne. If it wasn't for the fact the Falcon six is heavier that the Rover V8 (and as some one pointed out would change the balance of the Disco) I'd be attempting to fit one to my beast since it is no longer going.

gen 3/ls1 chev AKA any holden v8 99 to current. Heaps cheaper now and really common (sub $4k with box), and uses the same bellhousing as all the old small block chevs. Alloy block, 220kw minimum, you know you want to.

Thats what i did with my 93rrc and imho all rangies and discoveries should be fitted with these from factory, it transforms the vehicle

Where? I've priced them from British Motor Imports in Sydney and Triumph Rover Spares in Adelaide and they were more like $5-7K which is why mine had top-hat liners fitted ($2.2K supply and fit plus another $800 for high compression pistons c/w rings).

I paid $4500 for my new 4.6 bottom end from Discovery Automotive here in perth.

Julien did mention at the time that the part number was being superceded and the new part # was 5k+

to mean you'd bought a 4.6 for $3-4K

okay okay...explained poorly. Im sure you could pick up a 4.6 bottom end for 4k if you shop around. Rovacraft orginally quoted me $3800 but couldnt supply for two months.

I paid $4500 for the short motor and gaskets so the block was more like $4200.

All i know is...its the best $4000ish i ever spent on a rangie.....

I considered fitting a GM3800 V6 and 4L60 (Turbohydramatic 700R) into my Disco a while back since I have one in a commodore that is about to get the flick. The 4L60 has a very low 1st gear (lower than ZF) and a slightly higher O/D, so I reckon that it would be a good package with the V6.

But at the end of the day I'm safer with the diesel. The commodore uses 20L/100km as I generally flog it. Oh man does it LOVE TO REVfor a V6 it does really bark!

The 17 year old "Hoon" who lives over the road has been through 2 Commondore sedans, wrecked both, lost his license three times, went through back tyres very quickly (impressing his mates and girls with oily hair) and since he has turned 22, slowed down.
