If it's fluid loss, then it will stop eventually when the pump runs dry & seizes, taking with it the drive belt & the owners wallet.

I have a shorter belt that bypasses the ACE pump on my TD5. Its strangely quiet without the pump and the ride is rather bumpy with bars locked. If there was air in the system instead of oil then the bars might not be effectively locked, but its still driveable.

No electronics problems at all - ACE worked again once the orgiinal belt was refitted.

An 8PK1560 belt cut down to 7 ribs works well on the TD5.

And quite possibly the entire vehicle as it catches on fire...

As mentioned before, disconnect the pump and you should still be able to drive. You could run it with the pump still connected but once it runs dry it'll seize and be expensive to fix.

Yeeeesssss.... I had one of the ACE pipes let go on my D2. Dumped all the oil, under pressure, straight onto my exhaust manifold. With the amount of smoke coming out from under the bonnet, I did seriously think that it had actually caught.

One of our customer vehicles had a line failure underneath (tore it out with a stick or similar) and lost all the fluid. He kept driving until the pump failed and caught fire. Luckily it is a tour vehicle, therefore has an extinguisher on board .

A new pump, fluid lines and a filter had the vehicle running again.

About 2 years have passed now and it all still works fine.
