Drilled rotors really need to be warmed up.
Have to say I was told this also by people after I bought them for my Rangie. Nearly 4 years on (my Dad now has her) and there is no sign of cracking or fatigue at all. Speaking to DBA before I bought them they did say some fine cracks may appear but this will not affect strength or performance and if any large structural cracks appeared they would replace them with my choice of rotor.Quote:

I was traveling at around the 270km/h mark with (im young and stupid) cold cross drilled, slotted and vented brake rotors all round, and I did not have much brake when i reached the crest of a hill, and at that speed, i promise you approaching something that blind has a new meaning.
Now if i were towing a caravan along a highway for hours without any brake applications, and I suddenly had to perform some sort of defensive move, I think it would be messy.
After I put them on the Rangie, braking got better though not dramatically compared to the solid type rotors. Remember not all applications will accept the vented rotor. I had the solids lose capability a few times when heated towing loads. Never even felt like coming close once the cross drilled rotors were fitted. Just my experience.
Have to ask if they are so bad why do most race cars use them??
Have to be honest at 270kph I do not think there are many brake packages outside of custom jobs that will slow you down quickly.
I am not affiliated with any companies that make them either.
I would like to see the issues proven however, for clarity. Anyone got any pics of some that have failed. Test results from both sides of the argument would be good also.
Race cars use them because when they're hot, they are like 4 big land anchors, assuming you have everything set up properly :) And they dont care about replacements.
Someone here needs to be the guinea pigs and see how they go :-)
