Well I managed to get the little buggers out - without removing the window trims. Discowhite wasn't kidding - they're held at the top by double-sided tape! Part of each side didn't even have the backing paper peeled off so it was only held for half its length.
It definitely needs a couple of screws to hold it properly but I am aprehensive about removing the window trims as I recall the last time I had some interior trim replaced by Land Rover they had to wait ages for the retaining clips to arrive.

auto shops such as supercrap or ripco etc......have little packs of clips usually on a spinner......
you may be surprised to find the identical clips......at a much cheaper price......
when the dealer runs out......they need to order genuine.......from the uk.....

That top trim around the window isn't rivetted on, the rivets hold the clips on. If you jiggle it she'll fall off. I know mine does occasionally....

I worked that out after a bit of probing.
I've decided to take the whole lot out and properly secure the speaker trim panels with screws like DW suggested. I'll make sure I photograph it as I go so others know what's in there. I'm sure most 07 Defender owners are going to want to ditch the poxy little speakers that they come standard with.

And we have to hear ours through 47kg of dog - whilst he is kicking the speaker covers.
Interestingly, when I was getting the new speakers, it seems the fashion now is to have barely any speaker cover at all - or bits of mesh with large holes all around. I had to twist the salesman's arm to get a different set of plain mesh grilles included. I'm sure people with kids must love having the cones poked by little fingers all the time too.

Whoa there - I'm only half way through the job. I am yet to do the really messy, cutting stuff part. It may yet all go to poop.
