They are appearing to split along the seams. I think it is more to do with their age than the material. I guess the replacement opaque ones will split too when they are 10 years or so old perhaps?

    Hi guys,
I'm still around, let me know if you have any questions, can only try to help. Have been very busy at work, resulting in a low profile on the forum.
    Cheers

Another forum member is investigating a BMW coolant reservoir which is almost identical to the P38A unit except it is fitted with provision for a level sensor (item 12 in the pic). I wish I'd known about these before hand.

Which? The coolant tank or the LBB?

I've got the LBB on my V8 (and a coolant tank )

Also Ron, the P38a uses the same reservoir as the V8 Disco II so there's another option for the Disco owners.

The TD5 uses a different part number so I'd imagine it wouldn't have the extra pipe for the throttle body pre-heat like the V8 does. If that's the case, the BMW tank will (should) be a straight swap over.

The BMW level sensor hasn't been checked or priced but the old Classic RR sensor fits straight in.

Further differences are the size of the largest coolant hose connection which is slightly larger on the BMW tank. You can fit the hose but is is difficult to slide it over the connection. The tank inlet on the RR tank is under an angle while the bmw tank inlet/outlet is a straight 90 degrees out. The hose will get in trouble with the brake booster block on LHD verhicles like mine. On US verhicles this should not be a problem. I solved it by using a hose different hose.

The BMW tank is also slightly shorter. I estimate the difference at 5 to 8 mm.

    Regards

    Jos

Will take some photo's and post them later.

I'm certainly not going to be drilling the tank to fit the extra hose .
