    CDL nut/shaft???

    Oky Doke,
Can some one help me here, I've been doing home work on the lack of the cdl on the o2 discovery, ive stuck my hand up the side of the transfer case close to the front drive shaft and have come across 3 nuts in a triangle pattern with a shaft in the middle of these nuts and what feels like a rectangle nut at the base of the shaft. Is this the shaft/nut for the cld (does this mean I have the internals)??.or is it some thing else...
    Thanks
    Mark

Would seem you found the correct little shaft.

Boo hoo, looks like my 2001 TD5 Disco missed out on the CDL nut, i just checked and i dont have anything that looks like that, i thought it was only 02 models that didnt have it. i was planning on fitting a CDL kit as well, now guess i take the risk as it is.

    "that looks like that..."

    You need to feel it

The pic is taken from the top looking through the console/transmission hole from inside the car. These pics were taken when they were installing a CDL kit.

You will not see it at all if looking from underneath, unless you have a very small head

But seeing that your vehicle is most likely in the 'No CDL' years you might have missed out.

    Cheers.

This is from my website www.slunnie.com - Aussie Built Rovers

To look for it, according to Ashcrofts in the UK, you should be looking for transfer cases with serial numbers that start with 41D or 42D which have the CDL nut.
Its still not a bad idea to get under and check it as there always seems to be exceptions to the rules with all things automotive. Here is a picture taken from the top of the transfer case (pic taken from the cabin with the centre console removed), and the propshaft you can see is the front shaft. The CDL nut is in the middle of the plate that has the 3 bolts holding it in position. If you get under the truck, you probably wont be able to get your head up to see it well, if at all, but the nut can be spun with a 10mm open ended spanner

No probs with another LT230. I'd personally look for one from a D2 that had CDL as it also has the relevant electronics. Another alternative is to swap the nose of the transfer where the CDL mechanism is with one that had CDL but perhaps came from a non Disco2 vehicle.
