Just a quick question but what tyre preasures do you run that are running the Defender General Grabbers 235/85/R16's when driving on sand?? Most will be firm tight sand with some soft stuff.
Many thanks,

I thought the normal setting for deep sand was 15 Psi??
Yeah, I'd start at 20psi if the sand is firm like Desert sand. I usually go straight to 15 or 16psi and will run as low as 11psi for sand that is near water.

Hey John
I think I read that you are heading to fraser island. If are are camping therefore fully loaded I would start at 24psi and than when unloaded I go as low as 18psi if the cuttings are really soft. I have never needed to go lower than 18psi on qld beaches.
Have a geat trip
what's the old adage?
Go in hard, come out soft
I go for 20psi and have not had any problems. It takes less time to reinflate and also safer than going to low straight away if you don't need too.
Thanks all. I think I will start with about 22psi as we are arriving on a outgoing tide. Just to explain the reason for my question is I havn't driven a Defender on the sand for 4 years since our 02 110 Defender, since then I have done plenty of sand driving but on much bigger tyres and even though the theory is the same the preasure I'd run in our old Rangie was way different to the preasure I run in the HMMWV
So cheers and we're off to Fraser!!![]()
And if you want an example:
I went out to Cape Arnhem today (miles of beach and dune driving). We've had some rain now so the sand was much more compacted. When I was out there in September I was running 16psi, today I ran 27psi.
So like camel_landy says there is no 'Normal'. It's all to do with what the conditions dictact.
