    Earth points

    Hi Guys,
On a TD5 discovery 1999 model, where is the best earth points inside the cabin, I've installed an inverter under the passenger seat and used the metal under the seat as an earth point. It does not seem to work all that good. So I guess I'm looking for a better place, any ideas?
    Cheers

    Jan,
From memory there is an earthing stud under the cubbybox for the window switches etc. There is in the D1, I'm sure there should be one in the D2 also.
Having said this, the battery is the best place for an inverter earth connection I think, due to their current draw during operation.

Hi Entertainer, as posted above, the best earth for any high current device is the battery’s negative terminal.

What size inverter do you have and what is the distance from the battery to the inverter. This all goes to the best size cable because you MAY have a good earth but the cabling may be too thin and is why your inverter is not working so well.

    Cheers

    Hi guys,

Thanks for the advice so far

    Here is what I have:
    300amp inverter (from jay car)
    Using 4mm wiring.
Sits under the passenger seat and battery is in engine bay on passenger side against the fire wall.

Should I go up to 6mm wire?

    Cheers
