Also give the battery lead a good wriggle/tug where it crimps to the battery terminal, had a Td5 die on me last weekend due to poor factory assembly

Hi all, I've been away for a few days but the electrical saga continues.
I found a loose lead at the bottom of a relay which controls the duel battery system. But sadly I patched that up and the result was the same. I've double checked everything and the crazy 'elctro dance' still continues.
I've even tried by-passing the entire duel battery system but then I get absolutely nothing, not even dash lights (and the battery is all good).
So my next question is how many leads should there be on a normal factory single battery? Maybe something is missing. Perhaps someone may have some pics of their battery bay that I can review??
THe thing thats pi@@ing me off is that the car went all the way from gold coast to perth up to cape york, coburg peninsula, Gibb river road and more with not even a flat tyre. and now that it sat idle in the carport for two weeks its **** itself??? go figure.
anyways, if anyone can think of anything further I would be eternally greatful. Otherwise I will have to tow it to a garage at $$$.

An update.
I can happily confirm that I have got the old defender started. I found one loose lead and I externally charged the second battery and the engine fired. It was still strange, because I didnt really change anything from a similar attempt to get it going the other day. Nonetheless its going now and I'm taking it to a service pretty soon for a full check up.
thanks to all who made suggestions.
cheers

I once had the oil pressure light do the flickering thing on a trip home late one night. It was most worrying but I had to keep driving albeit slowly. We found one of the wires from the switch to the light was bared and touching either the engine or another wire. With a clean up and some elecy tape problem solved. Looking for cracked wires can take ages but could be something similar. I always look for simple things before starting on the major things.

I had the same problem with my defender yesterday. It has sat around for 4 days got in it and the lights doing the flashing thing and door locks cycling.
Initally thougt that the battery was flat but lights seemed alright not dim.
I ended up roll starting it and all has been fine.
My thoughts are that due to the computer and associated components on start up fuel pump ext is that a slightly discharged battery will cause this fault. That would explain why when you connect your other battery up your truck starts. I wish I would have checked the charge in the battery before I started it to confirm this.
