    rrc fuel system

    Happy new year to everyone.
    I was going to replace the fuel tank on my 89 rangie as the weld around the fuel return has broken. The problem i have is that my car has an expansion tank (behind the rear wing) which is linked to the charcoal filter in the engine bay which is linked to the plenum, there is also what i guess is a sensor related to emmisions between these two. The replacement tank i have is a basic efi tank with no connections for the 3 expansion tank lines.
    Does anybody know if i can remove the expansion tank, filter and sensor without the ecu going in a mood? So i can use the tank i have.
    I dont want to guess because of the amount of work involved.

    All three vapour lines coming from the tank join into one just before entering the vapour condensor tank.

    How many lines has the "new" EFI tank got? Is one of them a vapour/vent line?

    So, to make it work, you should have
    1. pick up from pump, through filter to engine (high pressure) (8mm)
    2. return line from pressure regulator into top o/s/f corner of tank
    3. filler inlet, (about dia 50 mm) and close to that
    4. possibly the return line dropping from the vapour condensor behind r/h quarter panel and maybe
    5. another outlet on the side/top of the tank for vapour

    The line from the charcoal canister goes straight to the vapour condensor.

    You could get away with just one vapour line off the tank, but if you have no spigot near the filler inlet to accept the condensate, you can't use the existing system.

    I suppose you'd need to weigh up the problem of having a non-complying fuel system in relation to emissions.

    If the EVAP solonoid is disconnected the ECU will know and throw a code, but I do not think it will go to limp home.

    Thanks for the info guys. The new tank has filler inlet, fuel supply, and fuel return. No vapour lines.
    Just wondered if i could disconnect the vapour filter system without affecting the running. Although i hadnt considered emmisions compliance!
    Guess i could disconnect the solenoid and vapour line from the plenum and see what happens.
