    Sals diff seal

Is there any drama with replacing the front diff seal?I can't see any problems but I have read that some people have had the seal running surface marked and that might be my problem as the vehicle does alot off dirt road driving. Pat

Find something to hold the input flange gear whilst torquing the pinion nut, as it's important to get that part right - too little and it vibrates loose, too much and the collapsible spacer gets damaged and upsets the diff settings. Provided that it's a newer front diff, use a new M14 nylock nut, and if you are worried about the seal running surface being scored, speedi-sleeve it. Works well.

Replacing the seal is fine... HOWEVER, there is a tip for getting the torque figure correct.

Before you undo everything, mark the position of the flange nut accurately. Loosen the nut and then count the number of full turns before the nut comes off (approx 11).

When re-fitting, turn the nut through the same number as releasing and then re-align with the markings that you made. The nut should now be in exactly the right position & at the correct setting.
