I have 20mm spacers. Never had an issue very happy. Potential coil binding is a possibility with some spacer/spring combinations but very unlikely with 20mm spacers. They will also insulate road noise to some extent.

You may lose some wheel travel depending on the springs. You will usually find that the spring itself will determine how much compression you have, not the bumpstop (unless the vehicle is very softly sprung). The spring should stop compressing (under slow going off road) before it hits the bumpstops. The bump stops are mainly there (in my opinion) to stop you topping out the shock if you hit a nasty bump pretty hard. Therefore if you put 20mm coil spacers in they will stop the spring compression (in normal off road driving) by 20mm. They will also be 20mm longer, and with the shock determining the amount of droop, you will now be 20mm short on droop. Also as was mentioned, it can lead to coil binding. All of this probably won't affect the characteristics of your articulation, but as mentioned, it may have a small effect. To overcome these problems you would need to fit 20mm longer shocks, or lower the shock mounts by 20mm, and then depending on what length the compressed shocks are, you may have to extend the bumpstops by 20mm. All of which is probably not worth the effort when talking about 20mm though. In my opinion, if you're not too worried about possibly losing 20mm wheel travel, then go for it.

thanks guys think i might save up and get some bigger springs as it sounds like the better way to go.

would a 1" body lift be a better option?

leave your suspension working the way it is. Leave the drive train mass low and lift the sills, bumpers and fuel tank out of harms way?

Body lifts are a major PITA for lots of reasons. 20mm spacers are no big deal and cheap. If for some reason you dont like them, take them out. You can get 4 spacers for about the price of one spring.

The rear springs on disco 1's have 10mm spacers factory, (sound deadening?)

If you take these out to put in 20's you'll only get 10mm

I bought a pair of 35 mm spacers for the rear of mine to get 25 mm to level up the rear after putting springs from a diesel (V8i here) in the front.

Hello Procastination,

Where would one look to purchase a set of coil spacers for a defender 110 wagon.
As my supension is only 80,000 km old i am not keen on replacing just yet but a bit more height would be good.
How hard is it to fit the body spacers?? I put 2" Cab spacers in my 97 GQ Patrol and it was ok to complete by myself.
