    Suspension query

Have been trying to sort out what is the correct bumpstop clearance for d1. Is it 2.5 inches for both front and back or should the rear be higher? Mine sits at 70mm on the front and at 115 on the rear. Rear is almost 2 inches higher. If it is supposed to be level I'd like to bring the front up as close as possible by changing the front springs to level it out. Do you think it was set up this way by previous owner or have the front springs compressed due to the engine and bullbar weight over time?

its measured as wheel to guard clearance.
land rovers figure for a D1 is front 460mm standard and 440mm minimum
and the rear is 490mm standard and 465mm mimimum.
this is measured from the wheel center to the wheel arch lip.

compress or raise your suspension to thoes figures and you have your base point.

By the measurements you just gave, it looks like the rear is about 1" raised and the front is pretty much standard height. I'd say that someone may well have replaced the springs and put heavy duty units in the back, but standard units in the front. It is probably personal choice whether you want the vehicle to sit level or slightly up in the rear. Slightly higher rear will mean the vehicle will sit pretty level when loaded.

I'm pretty sure it was set up for towing b4 as it also had poly bags in which have since perished. Height to wheel arch is 470 on front and 500 on rear. I might leave it as is for now as it does sit nicely when towing. I'll have to save up and get a 2 inch spring kit in when swmbo releases the purse strings. If i go this way i'l get all the right stuff so that the caster is corrected, do you need extend brake lines also with a 2 inch lift? thanks for replies as i want to do it right otherwise it is money wasted for little improvement.

2'' shouldnt require brake lines unless you are fitting a longer stroke shock, then the back ''t'' piece bracket will need extending.

    cheers phil
