    Help with Disco Won't start

    Ok my disco won't start
    Its a 300 Tdi Auto
Turn the key all the dash light come on turn to start and noting , not a bit at all. No noise. Drove to the shops fine , got out and then came back ten s mins later and then nothing
    Things to forget
    Batteries fine
Not even getting to the starter as no noise from there

Think it may be one of two things
The bit in the Auto wiring that tells the car to start when it is Park or nutral. Question is where is this and how do you get to it and check it. (bloody auto's not liking these bloody things one bit )

Or ignition Soliode (or how ever it is spelt) But i have had these go before and they tend to start playing up rather than just stop working like this did

    what is peoples thoughts

    Hi
To check the auto cut out hold the key on start and move the shifter thru its positions,MAKE SURE FOOT IS ON THE BRAKE!!!,if the neutral start is out of adjustment it should start in one of the closeby positions to park and neutral.
Try cleaning the "trigger" wire on the solenoid, that is a common problem.
If its a stinking hot day it could be voltage drop, not enough volts getting to open the contacts of the solenoid.Simply shorting the main feed to the starter across to the trigger wire will start it.MAKE SURE PARK AND HANDBRAKE IS ON!!!!.
Next to check is imobiliser if fitted.
GOODLUCK,let us know how you go!!!

To rule out a battery terminal problem, turn the headlights on and see if they work.

On the ZF Gearbox there is a inhibitor switch fitted to the grear box on the bit where the selector lever is its forward facing (towards/near) the near-side (passenger side) bellhousing.

Its held in with a U clamp and 1 bolt (o ring in there)

It looks like it is easy to remove - not sure if its a 'switch' or uses resistance - my guess its a switch - so it would be easy to test with a meter.

I can post a picture / doc if required. Let me know

Said it before, and I've been wrong, but could be the spider. If it starts working again 1/2 hour later, it's probably the immobiliser spider.

i would be suprised if a 94 disco didn't have an imbobiliser when our 92 defender does.........
