Thread: Plug missing from auto bellhousing - D2

its not a for a plug, this is where a tool is screwed in for timing the engine stops it turning if you take the camshaft or head off there is another hole for locking the camshft in place aswell

Check out something like "head remove and replace" in RAVE, and you willl find it is a place to screw in a tool that locks the crank in place while working on the motor
The lower hole is a drain and it's not even threaded, so it can't be easily sealed anyway.

Hi Bruce,

Discovered the vary same thing with my D2 and looked at the RAVE Cds etc .... nuffink, so called Kedron Rovertech. Apparently a common question that has been asked elsewhere in the forum... the upshot is, so I was advised, that it is a weep hole for oil that may come through from the engine and is most important with manuals so that the oil can drian before getting on to the clutch. Autos don't have to worry about this.

It was suggested that if a lot of water crossings or dust driving done then to screw a bolt in temporarily. There is a bolt screwed in elsewhere that is for this purpose but the grey matter is failing me on the where-abouts.
