I too am mightly impressed with this place.
I don't have an answer for you but I have the same problem and will be watching this thread closely.
Afternoon all,
First up, great to find such a great website, have spent the last few hours scrolling through the threads impressed at how much great info there is here!
I have read the threads re fixing the water leaks to my Disco but have a few questions...(its a Series 1 '94 three door 200tdi that I have had for about 12 months and I recall that the bloke I bought it from told me it didn't leak water. He was right, because the drought had been going for a few years at that time.... It rained the week I bought it)
I want to do a proper job fixing the leak as I plan to own the car for many years to come and am slowly adding bits to it as the budget allows, no point having rust around the windscreen...
Question is, do I remove the windscreen rubber to do this as it seems to have a joint that would allow this to happen ? or do I just run a bead of silicone under the rubber up against the windscreen frame? Also, do I just seal the top as per the LR 'water ingress' manual , or is it best to do the pillars too?
Advice re doing the rear windows also greatly appreciated
Cheers

Have you had a look through this one?
Mark Hopkins - Water Ingress
Where are you finding the water?
Before you launch yourself into the windscreen seal... Are you sure it's coming from there?? If you have a sunroof, have you checked the drain channels??

The Disco 1 prior to chassis #MA081991 has the same sort of windscreen rubber like the earlier Rangies. You prise the center strip out and then you can (Carefully) push the windscreen out. But, having done a windscreen change on my previous Rangie, a 83 model, it is a difficult exercise. You push too hard or in the wrong place and the windscreen cracks. You don't mention if there is rust you can see, so I'll presume that it is only a poor fitting rubber seal. (ps a new seal is available as a part MWC8304). LR updates -those referred to by Mr 4bee - on later Discos suggest using a butyl rubber compound to seal around the edges of the windscreen to stop leaks. In your case, I'd suggest removing the center locking strip from the windscreen rubber and gently laying a bead of the stuff ( it's name escapes me at the moment) between the seal and the bodywork all around the window, then gently replacing the locking strip. Since the windscreen is not bonded, I'd go with the butyl rubber instead of silicone as there is high probability of movement between body and windscreen. I know this bit sounds silly, but when I did my windscreen, and later the alpine windows on the Disco, I used K-Y jelly (ahem, a personal lubricant) to help get the locking strip in and positioned properly. The alpine windows are the same as the windscreen, in fact you should remove them first, clean up any rust and re-seal them as practice for the windscreen. The other fixed windows are generally left alone - some silicone to fill in if there is a crack on the corners, otherwise they don't leak.

Otherwise you could always use a hammer & center-punch and a call to your insurance company...

I had the same problem on my D2. Took it to a small windscreen shop and had a guy fix it for $20 cash. I doubt you would be able to buy all the urethane for less than that. He ran a bead of goo right along the top and it hasnt leaked since. Plus working with urethane is not fun, so i figured let a urethane whisperer sort it out.
