20k is a bit long i recon 10 for the first oil and filter and then the standard intervals after that
Who Like some advice,
I was inform from Purnell Motors (Arncliff, Syd) when I purchase the 07 Defender The first service should be around 10,000-12,000kms, but the owners manual states 20,000km.
Also would I be better off taking for service to the dealership or Graham Coopers Land Rover Specialists (St Peters, Syd)

I thought first services should be done at 5000. then at whet ever is recomended which would be 20,000 but i still think that a bit to long i would go 10,000.
Oil is cheap parts are not
the same engine in the transit is 15k but cant remember when the bypass filter is done and i cant find any of my training manuals i think i left them at fordsilly boy
personally Id do a 5K Km service just to see what metal the engine was making, then another at 10K km to make sure it had slowed down or stopped and then into the normal book servicing.

If you think you're in front on the deal, pay it forwards.
I queried this with my dealer who incidentally is not going to be my service agent because I live in a different city so they didn't have anything to gain by encouraging me to do more frequent servicing.
They confirmed that 20,000km was the right service interval but said I should have a "minor" service done every 10,000km. The service book has service types A, B & C. You will notice that the Defender services are all types B or C (medium & major services). The dealer said it would be wise to have minor type-A services done every 10,000km to be safe.
I also queried that there was no "first service" at 1000 or 2000km. The dealer said these just weren't necessary anymore.
20k is way to long i dunno who comes up with that crap probly fine in cold england no good here oil and filter every 10 i recon
Servicing should always be related to the type of conditions the machine is operating in.
Generally though for Australian conditions I wouldn't go past 10,000kms / 6mths between services.
Tdi used to recommend 10,000km - generally accepted interval is 5,000km
Td5 - recommended 20,000km - generally accepted interval is 10,000km
Transit - if recommeded is 20,000km - then I'd say do it at 10,000km
