Disco 300tdi Alternator Drawing power when sitting

As the title says my alternator is drawing 3.76 amps (at least I think I am reading the multimeter correct) when the car is turned off. It will flatten the battery in 2 days if it is just sitting. The alternator has done only about 5000kms at best and less than 12 months old, Bought new from Graeme Coopers. Before I take it back is there anything obvious that might be the cause? Other than bolting it in, I put the taco module on the alternator and that is it. The tacko works perfect. The Alternator makes a humming sound when it's sitting and has done so for a long time I just could not work out where the sound was coming from, It would have being doing this from new. My wife is sick of flat batteries so if anyone has any ideas please post them up?

    Thanks
    Stephen

Yup, rectifier has an earth leakage. Send it back and there should be a warranty if less than 12 months old. I have had 1 do this after 3 months, and there was no reason for it to go, it may even have been faulty when manufactured...
