    I had the same problem with the fan on my cruiser and that is how my mechanic checked it
    Sorry, but as others have been saying (including you), it looks like the viscous coupling has "gone west".

    If you can be bothered, check at your local Repco (or equivalent) store for a generic viscous fan hub. As mentioned the Ford one is a direct substitute if the Disco one (or RR one) is not listed.

    BTW, it's a lh thread, 32 mm a/f undo for the viscous hub nut. Crack the thread before you take the drive belt off. Again, fan hub spanner from auto parts store.

    Better than thermo fans, as long as everything else is right.

    PM on the way.

    Hello Wandera

    Sorry to be so slow to comment , I have only just seen this thread . Had the same problem as you . Locked the fan by removing two of the four clutch retaining bolts and bolted on two 2mm thick steel straps , about 15mm wide , 55mm long , bent so that the tails were adjacent the fan drive shaft . secured the straps to the drive shaft with a hose clamp . My mechanic was quoted $660 dollars for a fan and $126 for a lower radiator hose . Visited Landrover in Mitcham and got a clutch for $145 and a hose for $51 ! I found as you did , that the fan is required in the cruise if towing or not towing but cimbing hills .

    The 3.9 V8 nut is 36mm RH thread. It is different to the older ones.

    36mm spanner = Ford V8
    32mm = Ford 6
