Better off, cancelling Cooma and save the pennies for the inevitable.
Who knows you could be stranded out there in the harse NSW wilderness, only you, Stacey, Marcos and a LR with no go.
i cant believe any self respecting land rover fan would suggest such a thing, there no chance in hell of that happening.

I had a D1 injector pump removed, recalibrated and refitted for about $800 a couple of years ago. There were no parts required except for gaskets etc. The diesel mechanics fitted the pump to a fancy calibration device and reset the pump to the higher end of LR's specificatons. It also has to be correctly fitted for timing purposes. The D1 felt like a rocket and fuel economy dramatically increased after this work.

    Cheers
I am going to be able to remove and install one? Or are specialist tools required? I have ruled out rebuilding it myself as i think something as important and as complicated as this wouldnt be worth the risk.

Who did the pump tweek for you? I have been wanting to get that done but not had the cash, but if i am forced to do the pump anyway i might aswell get that done at the same time if i can. Matt

If you like I can Scan the haynes manual into a PDF file for Bosch VE Pump Rebuild and Post it up , not sure what tools are required but surely it can't be that hard to rebuild one yourself if you have a Mechanical apptitude and the right tools , if all else fails then take it to Katoomba and get it rebuilt there that way you'll save some dough. and with regards to Cooma , happy to take a detour and pick you up + family for L/R 60th from Lithgow.

thanks mate, i rang the mob in penrith today, they were the best priced at 900, but thats if i remove and fit, and im not sure i want to do that, i have been looking at the rave CD and it looks somewhat involved. I am fairly mechanically minded and have done everything myself but i want this done right, its not something i want to be stuffing around with for ever getting it sorted. Matt

the injector pump is something I do very little to, apart from the o-ring repair the odd spring replacement. The unit is essentually specialist service only.Had the chance to see one being done once and outside of parts it took 4 hrs to callibrate in a room nearly as clean as a hospital and at that time it was 250punts about 300e, wonder how long it would take to ship one down there????????
the removal is easy -ish there are two ways depending on when the cam belt was last done, if the belt is new just remove the 3 ten mm stud ,remove the injector pipes completely, the two bolts on the rear bracket mark the pump and the timing cover (to allow easier replacement) then turn the engine over by hand(remove the heater plugs makes it easier) until the timimg mark on the fly wheelis visible in the wading plug (slot cut about 6mm wide),then using a 9.5mm drill inscert it to lock the pump drive gear . remove the nut and spring washer then the 3- 8mm nuts holding the pump to the timing cover gently ease the pump rearward and raise it back first, on the shaft there is a woodruff key mind it
if the belt needs to be done then kill two birds with one stone only add the above to timing proceedure .

    easy-ish
