yeah i figures it would be fairly complex, i have found another place in katoomba so i am going to ring all three in the morning and talk to them, at least i can get the car to them before work they knock off, no one is open saturday so i cant get to people until the school holidays if i want to use people in penrith and i simply dont have the time to wait that long. I want this sorted before cooma.

Who did the pump tweek for you? I have been wanting to get that done but not had the cash, but if i am forced to do the pump anyway i might aswell get that done at the same time if i can. Matt
Matt, it was HDS in Coopers Plains Brisbane. I went from a V8 to the Tdi and for months I simply thought "hey it's a 4 cyl diesel - so it is sluggish". Then summer came and when the a/c was on it was pretty sad until the turbo kicked in. As I said, the pump was done and it was a new car. The mechanic said someone must have played around with it as the calibration was way out.

    Cheers

    Hi Ace,
I redid mine a couple of years ago with a diesel mechanic mate at side. Bought a kit from a diesel mob and then marked everything on the pump with a liquid paper pen and then dismantled the top half of the pump hoping that was the only problem. A can of brake cleaner to blow and clean everything out and then back in she went. Car runs exactly the same, but no leak.

As previously mentioned the diesel these days is not good for the seals in the injector pumps and my diesel mate is endlessly replacing them in toyotas. He recommends an upper cylinder lubricant to put in your fuel when you fill up such as Morleys to keep them good especially anything over ten years old.

Wasn't as hard as it seemed. What are you going to stuff up, a leaking injector pump!

    Cheers

I decided to bite the bullet and take it to Bruce Davis, $1200 for a reco pump and it will have the tweek done to it already, which i was planning on doing, so really i get that for free as he has his injection specialist tweek them all when he rebuilds them. He is also going to give the vehicle a good once over which it has never had by anyone other than me so that will be worth while.

yeah i saw that one, it ended without a bid and has been re-listed.

I turns out mine is totally stuffed (but rebuildable) the normal cost for a rebuild is about $950 so $1200 removed and installed for an exchange if yours can be rebuilt. Mine is (isnt it always) well and truely buggered, the outer case is stuffed, the plungers (so something like that) are had it, and its not a usual seal and a few other bits and bobs rebuild job. So the cost is going to be $2085 plus fitting which brings the total to just under $2400, and to top it off the viscous fan has **** itself and siezed, but bruce is going to see if he has one around the shop which i can have. I could buy the one on ebay, but its in WA, with unknown condition, if mine wasnt leaking it would appear to be in good nick but its not, so i would have it checked out and Bruce's injection man would charge $100 for that, then i would need to pay for anything to be done, which would add to the cost. So in the end i took the safe, but more expensive option, and went with getting mine re-done.

In the end i am glad it went now, its going to cost a bit to get sorted but i will have half of the full Bruce Davis Tdi work over, all i need to get done now is the turbo mod, and i know my injector pump is good for another 250000km or so. Matt

    300 Tdi injector pump leak

Hi, I've just looked at a 300 series (Jun '94 18L) Tdi with these symptoms (372km and a leak out of the injector pump under the throttle return spring).
Does anyone have an updated estimated cost of rebuilding/changeover injector pump?
It also has an airbag light on the dash (SRS). Is this a problem or does it just need to be reset?
Can anyone tell me where a good place to contact to get an estimated cost of repair?
    Thanks,
