For something different, I saw a site in the UK that was converting the 2.8TD 4M40 mitsubishi motors into RR's. They're a pretty good motor and something I'd be looking at, not sure how to marry up g/boxes though.

I'd run the other way from that engine. In a challenger it gets worse fuel economy than a 100 series landcruiser.
But the Isuzu 4JB1T (2.8 turbo) would be an option.

Slap in a Deutz V8 air cooled diesel.
That way you don't have to worry about the radiator :D

It looks like the Yank 700R4 type thing or the box that Isuzu used (either Aisin or Allison, not sure) is your only real option for a self-shifter.

A quick google search for this: Stanton 4x4

Not much info on fitment though. I was under the impression they were a strong motor with not much going wrong with them. I know of a few Pajero owners easily getting less than 10km/100 fuel use.

I know of two people who owned Challengers with that engine. They both got hit with very expensive fuel pump repairs at low km's. I thought coincidence until I mentioned it on a NZ 4wd website and the only regular there with that engine had the same story.:eek:

Fuel economy was around 8-9km/l, that's less than my rangie with the 4BD1T, despite weighing half a ton less and pushing less air.
