    Transfer case/Gearbox noise

In My 94 tdi disco just had the transfer re-built now there is a noise when you back off from higer speeds(there is no noise while accelerating). It's a whirring noise. Has anyone else had this problem?

does it do it in all forward gears in both ranges?

when you are reversing does it whine in the same way?

if it does then the endfloat and backlash of the intermediate gear on the tcase need looking at. Dont discount that it could also be a diff with a pinion bearing a bit loose.

It does it in all forward gears but not on revers
It is not a diff as we took off the prop shafts and it was still doing it
it sounds like it is coming from the Gearbox when we listend through a
    stethascope.

more than likely it will be the input bearing on the way out along with some wear on the syncros.
