    winch fairlead set up

    righto o i have to pull my finger out and finish my pto winch install

    as there is nothing off the shelf cradle wise i need to build my own

    re: fairlead rollers, the top of the bottom roll, where should it sit in regards to the drum, same height, lower or higher

    from left field......is it ok to run plasma rope on a pto winch, this will be a down the track mod/upgrade

    ok...doing a bit of research, does anbody use the hawse type fairlead with a steel rope, 1/3rd the price and much nicer looking

    Yes you can use a hawse fairlead with steel cable but the fair lead needs to be a cast iron type

    It is not advised to use fairlead rollers with Plasma rope, if you are winching off centre and the plasma rope gets pulled into a corner, i.e. where one vertical roller meets one horizontal roller the plasma rope can squash and get jammed between the two, not a problem with wire rope as it will not squash enough to go into the gap, Regards Frank.

    Roller fairleads cause less friction on the wire rope and in a pinch they allow you to run the cable under the car and hook up to something behind to winch out backwards, that's if the vehicle is not bogged to the chassis, Regards Frank.
