Wheel bearings???
JC
From inside cabin sounds like winding up a big clock spring, but open the window, high pitched metallic squeal, like a belt.
Traced to drive line as it is road speed not engine speed related, and happens only while moving, in drive or neutral, so I guess it has to be something to do with the auto or transfer case. Centre diff lock, low/high range, front and rear diff locks settings do not seem to make any difference.
Happened first thing this morning (0900) and at lunchtime 1300) after RR had been parked. Persisted for maybe 1k at 0900 and only 150m at 1300. So it happens when starting from cold, and not till RR gets to over 20kph. No obvious noise at slow speeds, but starts off slight and ‘winds up’ as speed increases, then just stops when whatever is being done has got to correct pressure/heat or whatever.
Noise stops if you slow down to <20k, and starts again when vehicle speed increased.
Checked oil levels in gearbox and transfer, both have sufficient oil.
Ideas please.

As a test, whilst you are driving with the window down to listen for the noise, gently tug on your handbrake to see if the noise changes.
Or if your axles have stone guards, check to see if there are any pebbles or foreign material caught between the brake rotors and the discs.
One time I was in the Simpson, the mud that was trapped in between the stoneguards and the discs wore out just my inner brake pads so by the time I got to Alice Springs, my two week old brake pads were still new on the outside but the inner pads were worn down to the metal backing.
Impressive, I thought!![]()
Thanks for all the suggestions .... PROBLEM SOLVED
Jacked one front wheel and while rotating it heard a metallic rattle under car, traced to the front diff. Seems that the mud thrower pressed onto the drive flange had separated from where it had been press fitted and it was acting like a loose washer on a bolt. Did not want to pull front driveshaft off etc so applied silicon to the joining surfaces to hold it in position. Noise stopped.
