Thread: Manual to Auto engine/gearbox swap?

Hi:

Is it possible to drop an engine and automatic gearbox discovery series 1 into an existing disco that has a standard gearbox. My 1998 standard geabox has that play in the gearbox mainshalf and the motor is a bit ratty but I picked up a '96 with a good engine gearbox (124,000Km on the clock) that's smooth and quiet and as the vehicle cannot be put on the road (middle east legalities etc) I thought I would do a swap? Question is? does the ECU have to be swapped and are there other associated problems with attempting this transplant?

Yes they are both the 3.9L V8s Series 1 Discos
