Thread: Changing the A frame ball

all you need is a new ball assy and you just jack it up remove the ball joint housing, two bolts, and press out the old one and press in the new one.
you do need to play around with grinding a bit off the old one so you can rest it on the press blocks, but it isn't hard to do.
mind you you do need a press, or you might get away with a wopping big vice, just substituting the press with a big hammer is likely to ruin the new ball joint.

yeah... it is straightforward, but....

imhe you'll need a proper 20t press, or even easier, take the old assembly and the new part to a workshop with one and get them to install the bj in the frame... all a lot easier than trying to do it w/o the full equip

It definitely needs a big press. Don't even try it with a big hammer.

They are very f'n hard to remove , i now just unbolt the centre piece with the bj and take it to a bearing place to have pressed out/ in.

I tried the big hammer approach to get my old one out but it didn't move a mm.

I then took it to a mechanic (one we use for work) and had it pressed out and the new one in for a 30 pack of Coke.
