    TDI vs TD5

I'm looking at picking up a Defender, and was interested on opinions of the the TDI v TD5.

I'm new to Land Rovers, and would appreciate any feedback.

There is a really really long thread on this topic somewhere which is quite recent. hang on I will find the link.

(this topic will start a war)

    They are both good engines

tdi is simpler, and probably slightly better on fuel
td5 is more powerful and equally reliable after a few early issues.

    300tdi vs td5

    G'day ryangus,

This is a highly controversial and emotive subject with very strong opinions on both sides.

Instead of re-hashing what has already been said try doing a search and typing in "tdi vs td5", you'll get something like 17 pages worth of hits.

To get you started here are some of the latest and longest discussions on the tdi vs td5:

    yes it is.

Better at getting oil in the harness.
Better at losing the oil pump bolt and lunching the entire engine.......

Agree, read the other threads and then choose which technology you are comfortable with. Don't let "initial purchase price" decide for you. It's a false economy if you buy cheap - it will cost you more in reliability and maintenance. This applies to any product.........
