They are both good engines

tdi is simpler, and probably slightly better on fuel
td5 is more powerful and equally reliable after a few early issues.

This is a highly controversial and emotive subject with very strong opinions on both sides.

Instead of re-hashing what has already been said try doing a search and typing in "tdi vs td5", you'll get something like 17 pages worth of hits.

yes it is.

Better at getting oil in the harness.
Better at losing the oil pump bolt and lunching the entire engine.......

not as good at losing the cambelt tho....

I had a TD5 thought it was c__p but now have a 200tdi
