Hi just interested in what gearbox oil you run in a lt95 4 speed gearbox.

Philip,
I've tried a number of engine oils in my LT95. All of them had a change in performance between hot and cold, and even summer and winter. VMX80 has made the box quieter by far than all the others, and shifting is more consistent regardless of season/running temp. I tried it after watching a long thread on LT95 recommended oils on this forum, and have never looked back.
Brian,
I need to run the same oil in both, because they are leaking between the two![]()

After doing lots of reading and asking lots of questions I am using Castrol VMX-80 also, and in both boxes. I have only recently installed the LT95 after swapping out an auto so I have nothing to judge my choice by yet. Still working 3mths later!! Bit noisy but I think thats just wear.
because that's what the factory originally specced as there was no such thing then as a 75w-85, 75w-90 GL4 manual trans oil. (15w-40 engine oil is equivalent to a 75w-90 gear oil in viscosity, at least when new. I'm guessing the engine oil would shear to a 75w-80/85 very quickly))
Engine oils shear very quickly in transmission use.
