    Paintwork polishing

    [Please excuse me if this doesn't make sense]. For anyone around the Castlemaine area they will know of the limestone type dust that builds up on cars driven on dirt roads around that area. I have used a "cut and polish" type paste to remove it all and I am surprised at how nice the Arles blue paintwork is under all that crap.

    A relation who is a refinisher advised to wash the paintwork using "Autoglym Bodywork Shampoo" followed by "Super Resin Polish", but first remove all traces of previous waxes.

    So before I ring him and sound like an idiot, what do I use to remove all the old waxes and polish?

    I use a macguires product called cleaner wax on my disco, does a good job of cleaning the paint without cutting the clearcoat. Polishes out tree scratches pretty well also. Prepsol should remove the old polishes. Available from supercheap etc.

    meguires paint cleanet followed by a polish and the a wax, i use their 3 step system and it works very well

    Dulux makes a wax and grease remover, should be available at Parts store or Panel beaters suppliers, Regards Frank.

    you can use turps cant you? Just dont use thinners.

    Dont quote me on this, but i think some of the more hardcore truck washers will take of wax.

    I use AutoGlyme, its brilliant. I loved Meguires and I used to think it was the pinacle of care care... then i found AutoGlym.

    I'm not sure but I think Turps will leave an oily residue, I use Dulux Wax & Grease remover to prepare a surface for painting over, will even take of undercoat sprayed over old paint with no marking, Regards Frank.
