Hi JC i took out the front shaft and problem solved,you say to put in a D2 cardan joint shaft is a D2 auto shaft the same as a manual because i can get an auto one for $330.00 and is that a fair price.

Check your uni's on your old shaft before you go and buy a whole new shaft.
That maybe all it is.

and everyone else thanks for your help i fitted D2 cardan joint shaft and flange, test drove the Defender and the problem was solved.
So thanks again to all JC your advice was spot on.
