    td5 injector leaks

Has anyone out there had a problem with diesel leaking from the injectors directly into the crankcase and overfilling the sump. I am not so concerned with the problem but the fix. New injector assemblies would fix the problem but at $800 per unit ...... has anyone had td5 injectors overhauled successfully and by whom in the NSW area.Any help would be appreciated...

Is this in a Defender or a Disco? Auto or Manual?

Someone on here had that problem, eventually it will lead to overspeeding of the engine. The reason I ask auto or manual is in case you need to shut it down in a hurry.

    Drtrigg,
There are 3 seals on the injector, 1 x Copper, at the base & 2 x rubber "O" rings,
I would start with these first as some have lead to leakages as u have described.

    Its also a lot cheaper

Auke knows first hand the problems and solutions to this problem.

you dont need new injectors just new injector seals more than likely the top seal.

but once youve pulled the injector to change that you have to change them all.

DO NOT mix up the injectors, do them one at a time and put a little texta mark on them as you do them. cleanliness is your best friend while you do these.

Dont keep driving as the diluted lube oil is not going to do its job properly and theres a couple of ways that it can lead to a runaway and none of them are going to be good news.

I had the same symptoms and initially the mechanic thought that was the problem but don't worry it only turned out to be a cracked head. Pretty common on pre-03 models apparently.

    $5.5k later.........

I would go with BlkKnight sugestion first. Seals are cheap but the injectors are a real pain to get out. Took 2 weeks and 3 workshops to free mine as they kept breaking the tool.
If the injectors are not put back in the same spot you will need to have the ECU programed to know which injector is where.
If the seals don't solve it then you have bigger games to play and a lot more $$$ involved.

hi I had an injector fail recently(just stopped operating). I bought a second hand unit from Triumph rover spares lonsdale SA If you look at the injector you can make a tool to remove them without too much trouble. Do keep them in order and when you have put another injector in take the code no to get it fine tuned by some one with the tools to programme the injectors as they have preset factory tolerances.pm me if you want a pic of the removal tool I made.

Got a horrible feeling I may be starting to get these injector leaks now.....

My sump level was up when I looked earlier, although I have just serviced it and it may have been a bit high anyway.

Dropped the sump plug and drained off a bit. First little bit I drained felt less oily than the second bit I drained... Would the oil and diesel mix fully?

Would that make sense or is just me being paranoid!?

Does anyone have a picture or explanation of changing them?

I have read back through all the posts I could find.

Just to add it has done 54k miles (about 85k km) and has a very full service history, having been fully serviced 13 or 14times since new. (almost all of them by me)

    Aaargh
    Pete.
