    hi dave just been quoted on a full rebuild on mine including removal and refitting came in at $2600 3k max if anything odd needs doing best price i could find in brissy most places wanted 3k + with the dearest coming in at 4k hope this gives you a rough idea of what u are in for i feel your pain but time frames are teh same up here 2 weeks min damn easter hope al goes well for you

    Thanks for the suggestion Scouse and the good wishes Worraps, I appreciated both.

    The upshot is I now have my Disco back from the Auto place after two weeks... I've no clear idea what they did other than it involved replacing gears and bearings and cost me $3000...
    It seems to drive okay but I haven't been far in it as I've lost confidence in the Disco - I feel like I've come back from every journey over 50Km recently on a flatbed.
    The auto place wants to inspect it (for free) in a months time and then wants me to sign up for regular auto services (at standard rates) to provide a warranty on their work.

    glad u got it all back and working mine went to the shop on friday so guessing a week or 2 till i gt it back i will still post up what they find out with mine as it might give somebody down the track an idea of what there problems could be.

    "UPDATE" just got a call back from teh shop turns out the tourque converter has stiped the spines on it and have a couple of clutches gone so full rebuild for me also $2800 for me + a few bushes ect i will get changed while its in teh shop
