Early ECU so 2 pot not 3 pot. If you swap the ECU's without reprogramming the injector codes you may notice some performance issues, but more importantly, swapping with out cleaning the harness won't achieve anything.
If it was me I'd be cleaning the harness as mentioned and also be checking the throttle. After this is done I'd get it to a diagnostic unit and see what else is occuring.
