    Help! No indicators

The indicators on my 97 D1 stopped working yesterday. I have checked the fuses but have found no problems there. I was just wondering if anyone has any idea where I can look from here. Just seeing if I can atleast narrow down the problem - if I can't solve it - before approaching the auto elec.

flasher can test this by trying the hazards. If thats working then its the switch in the colum.

I replaced my 96 D1's flasher can a little while ago.

I pulled the casing off of the old one and saw a bit of contactor dust floating about. Maybe the Oxide was stuffing the resistance at the contact, maybe the dust was conductive and buggering up the electronics.

I wonder whether squirting it with electronics cleaner and blasting it with air might get it to come good.

Worth a go for you before you lash out on a newy. I couldn't find a generic one that worked and had to get the Lucas unit via a dealer

I also tried a second hand one from a D2. It fit worked ok for hazards, but flashed like I had a failed bulb for indicators

Had already tried the hazards and they are working fine. I wasn't sure whether they used the same flasher can, but obviously they do. Does this mean I am up for a complete new indicator stalk? Or is the switch you refer to seperate to the stalk assembly? Thanks for your replies.

Yes, No, Yes, Yes Yes Yes, No, Yes

I can sympathise - my D1 indicators have decided to work intermittently, except they are staying on rather than off. Sometimes they flash and other times they stay on - going off when I move the stalk back to off position, obviously.

I'm suspecting the flasher unit - has anyone else had this issue?

Where abouts does the flasher unit live in a 94 Disco V8?

Any cheap sources for replacement units?

    Help greatly appreciated.

The flasher unit on a 95 D1 is in the main fuse board on the drivers side, behind the plastic cover beneath the steering wheel. It is a little black box that looks like a relay. There are 2 retaining clips on the base board that holds it in.

Mine was $62 from a local LR specialist.

If yours is Caca anyway, you've got nothing to lose pulling it apart and trying to clean up the contacts

I had the same problem, it was the contacts in the switch assemby. Need a new indicator stalk down the track. A clean will fix it short term.
