    "whirring" noise behind dash

my car has this noise that comes on as soon as the ignition is on and once the car is running. to me it sounds like a slight whirring/electrical noise. its coming from somewhere above my right knee and inside the dash. does anyone know what it might be?

    Mine does the same.

I was told or read somewhere I think that it was something to do with a balance thingy (sorry for the crap description) in the clutch.... hmmm annoying that I can't remember what it was called but ..... centrifugal clutch thingy or something like that springs to mind.

Apparently it is nothing to worry about...................

mines an auto, and the noise is definately electrical and within the right hand part of the dash. cheers though.
just to clarify, the engine doesnt have to be running to hear the noise, and its there every time the ignition is turned on.

Pretty sure its to do with the climate control measuring interior player comfort levels.

    Exactly that Andrew,
On the r/h/s where the outside mirror adjustor is, is a small vented/slotted section in that is a small fan that sucks air through to gauge interior temps. A good idea guys when cleaning ocassionally is get the vac to suck some of the dust out.

Gday well here is another one that has it, ours started on our Camberra trip last September. The car is booked into MR Autos on the 8th and they will have a gander, it sounds just like a PC fan that has a heap of crap on it
