Maybe it's worth checking the headbolt tension when adjusting valves?

Has anyone used the all metal 300 tdi gasket. they equate to a 3 hole gasket and are as suggested all steel. The lrover guy I get parts off has fitted upwards of 50 with good results, this is what I have bolted in just recently???? Any opinions?

in theory all metal gaskets work fine(they used to when all we had was cast iron blocks) but they can suffer from electrolysis and corrosion from the coolant jacket side...
In my experience they dont give a lot of warning when they are about to let go but thats not much when you really need to be on the ball to pick up the early signs of a composite gasket letting go.

Hmm, is there a better grade of gasket, or are they all prone to fire ring failure?
And I reckon that fuel pump tweak I was thinking of just died........
