    Replacing RHS TD5 Engine Mount

    Hi,
Anyone had experience in changing out a Disco II RHS (Drivers Side) TD5 engine mount. Is the TD5 sump strong enough to support the engine weight if I jack it there to change the mount?

Can I support it any where else as I do not have a shed/beam or block and tackle to overhead support it for the swapout. Apart from supporting the engine it looks like a pretty straight forward job or am I fooling myself.

Thanks in advance for any info, tips or tricks.

    TD5 Engine Mounts

My new TD5 engine mount arrived yesterday. Geez, looking at it compared to the RHS one in there, the RHS one is absolutely stuffed and the LHS one not far behind using JC's method of identifying a faulty one. (Thanks Justin)

Need to order a second one now for the LHS to swap out also. 89,000 klms and they are both stuffed. I guess it's a TD5 towing thing. (Probably with the extra grunt also from the mod's).

No wonder it sounds like I have a sports exhaust system under the Disco, a very harsh idle as well as the cat converter tapping on the chasis because of the slant on the motor to the RHS where it has dropped about 10 CM plus a strange noise from the Disco when turning right.

Now to swap out the RHS one this Sunday, fit recently bought Dobinson shocks all round and do a service.

There goes watching the footy match but hopefully the Disco will be all sweet again.

My advice is to NOT try to remove the engine bracket, as the engine can be jacked high enough by removing the nut from the top of the LH mount and by removing the I/C hose at the inlet manifold, after having removed the fan shroud. I unbolted the fuel cooler as instructed and I think that was necessary.

I'll now go and wash my mouth out with soap and to get some glue to stick my hair back on. I got 3 of the 4 bolts of the engine bracket undone before abandoning that method and doing as described above, but inadvertantly let the jack down before re-installing the 3 bolts and had to get the 4th one loose anyway as the mount had moved.

    Price of Engine Mount

    Hi Andy,
$256 each plus Express Post bag from Britishoffroad, sunshine coast Queensland. You can only get genuine LR mounts but they were cheapest price.

Someone got a Second Hand one from TRS in Adelaide for $50. After seeing the state of mine I would be pretty hesitant putting in SH ones. Looks like the extra Grunt from the mods and the heavy towing really stuffs the RHS one. LHS one is not much better but I thought it was OK until I saw the new one.

I'll take a photo of the new one & show the method JustinC said how you check them. The RHS ones coming out tomorrow so I'll take a photo of it then. Be interesting to see it when it's out.

    I was Fooling Myself

JustinC, Thank You for your advice on the mount and you were right, I should have taken it to a workshop, put it on a hoist and used a transmission jack under the motor. It would have been much, much easier that way.

Thank you also Graeme for the tips. You deserve a medal, doing it with limited jacking equipment. It was a pig with 2 X 1650 Kg trolley jacks.

What a baxxxrd of a job doing it in the car port, with a couple of trolley jacks. Lucky for me the wife was an excellent TA.

Will get the pic's of the new mount and the one that came out off the camera tonight.

If you look at the mounts from under neath as JustinC said there are two holes in the bottom of the mount. You should see the rubber about 10 centimetres up inside the hole. If you do then they are OK.

My right hand side one was trying to push out the centre hole. It had collasped. The TD5 sits much higher up in the engine bay now. My LHS one is about 4 cm from the bottom and gets swapped out either next Sunday or Sunday after.
