I don't know if it's been mentioned to you before, but the flexible joint in the downpipe can cause a vibration/rattle sometimes.
i had this done today privately and while i cant really feel anydifference in accelleration, it does seem a bit smoother and perhaps freer before turbo kicks in. as ive mentioned in a few posts i have an annoying drone/engine vibration at around 2250rpms. its still there, but this has helped by about 30%. am i getting any more power from removing the cat? or will i get better fuel economy? cheers.

Check your engine mounts.
How did you remove the Cat?

I didn't think they had a cat in 02![]()

I think Simon may mean the centre muffler?! I have heard its not noticeable power wise, but may help with the spooling of the turbo...which may help me as I have TD5 Manual.

Yeah it might be more of an impact on a Defender though given the length of the pipes and the restriction that may cause.

engine mount been done (rhs) left is still fine. it is the cat i removed. i still have the first(centre muffler) and the rear muffler. will removing the centre muffler help too? what effect on cabin noise?
after a bit more driving today, it has more go above 3000rpm, especially in 2nd.
cat was removed by a simply cutting it out and welding in a piece of stainless steel in its place. it slips over and welded to the existing pipe at the engine side and welded as a direct mate-up(wrong terminology sorry) on the rear side.
