Sure you did'nt damage a front axle or front CV during the recovery?

Hopefully you react a bit quicker to fixing the front end than the engine shut off.
At present there will be oil full of metal particles swirling around in either your front diff or hub doing untold wear. I doubt its a transfer shaft gone., same warning if it is.

Ok, well 1st of all... i think you need to take a deep breath and work out what the problem is. 1st.... open the bonnet and get the engine cut off fixed..... Preventative Maintenace goes a long way... Oil the bonnet pull when you change the oil.... you do change the oil???

Then jack it up and lock the diff in the transfer and see if the transfer does lock... if not then your center diff might have expired

    Where are you located???
we might have a bloke close by who can have a look for you.

Stalling it will not have damaged the gearbox.

Something has probably been damaged in the recovery -

    1. Centre diff
    or
    2. Front diff (most likely)
    or
    3. Front drive flange
    or
    4. Front half shaft or CV.

There are other possibilities, but these are unlikely.

Chock the wheels, then jack up one front wheel .

Turn the jacked up wheel - if it turns without moving the front prop shaft, the problem is in the front axle, and inspection through the diff filler hole is likely to show whether it is the diff or axle/drive flange/CV and which side.

If it turns the front prop shaft with the centre diff locked, then the centre diff is most likely the problem. If it will not turn, lower the front wheel and repeat with a rear wheel jacked up and the handbrake off but in gear. On the symptoms given, this should turn, but the prop shaft not turn, showing a broken half shaft or stripped drive flange or (very unlikely) a broken diff, but it is unlikely to be anything at the back.

    Hope this helps,

    John

Yep what john said and id be 90% right in saying that you have sheared the center pin in the front diff center the pin that holds the side gears this is the weakest point in the diff and usaly breaks or the circlips on the end fail and the pin falls out causing allsorts of damage
