Smile Right hand wheel has knocking noise

Hello my 76 Rangie right hand wheel has a little bit of movement in it when I grab it from the top and rock it side to side, I have adjusted the wheel bearing nuts and still have the movement in it, not sure if it could be worn cv or wheel bearing, anyone had this happen b4?

tee hee yep. at 20 yrs of age, knowing everything, i diagnosed my work ute with a stuffed diff pinion gear thing. dismantled rear end, sent diff from mackay to unle mechanic in maroochydore, returned and reinstalled, still clunking... so then i tightened the front left wheel lug nuts...

Assuming the wheel nuts are ok then the first port of call is the swivel bearings. to check these jack up the vehicle and with the vehicles wheels pointing straight ahead put some latex paint around the seal on the chrome swivel ball. then lower the vehicle after its dried.

if the paint cracks or pulls apart youve got way too much play in the swivel bearings

if your lucky you can just pull a couple of shims out of the top pin to get the preload back but if not shes a pulldown job.
