    LT 230's and CDL's

Gday guys im just after some info on swaping a CDL from a LT230 into another LT230 which didnt get CDL from factory is there any tricks or extra bits needed for this mod im sure its just a simple case of swaping the front housing with the CDL to the one without then setting up the selector much the same was done to my brothers D2 a while back now any advice on this topic would be muchly apreciated

    Cheers chris

    G'day mate,
I used a front output housing from a D1 with the CDL internals and swapped it with the front output housing from my LT230 in my D2 which had no CDL.
Was a straight swap, only differance i found was the D2 front output housing has a switch activated by the Hi/Low selector which you need to retrofit to the D1 housing. If you're using a housing or transfer case from a d2 or defender with the cdl internals then the hi/low switch would already be in place.
I changed the front output housing in place (did not remove the transfer case). If i had the means to remove the transfer case completely and do the work on the bench this i think would be the better way to go.

    best regards, Phill

I used RTV sealant instead of gaskets, was advised to do this (cant remember by who) but i found that after a few months i developed a bad oil leak on the rectangular inspection plate beside the cdl spigot, i had to remove this plate and reinstall with a regular gasket. I would advise using gaskets on all the inspection plates and just use the sealant between the output housing and the main housing.
Just my opinion though, others may have better advice.

i have a rangey TC to put the cdl and front housing into my D2, my mechanic reckons the front shaft output flange is a different bolt pattern on the rangey and my D2 flange wont fit over the rangey front housing so he reckons it wont work. is he just being difficult and doenst want to do the job ?

Can anyone tell me if there are differences between the front output flanges from the early LT230 from a rangie to the LT230 fitted to the 01 D2 im sure they are the same but am not 100 % and i cant view the TC now as it is with its new owner and hes having problems as the mech hes taken it to seems to think that it wont fit and im sure it will any help here guys would be great

    Hi Rosscoe68 and lokka,

yes the flanges are different but you just undo the nut and swap them, dead easy,

the parts you need are :

    As Dave said.

The D2 front drive shaft has a double cardan joint at the t/case end. The bolt pattern of the dc joint is larger.

I and others have fitted the D2 flange to other LT230's.

If it had Gaskets, Use Gaskets. If it had Silicon, Use Silicon....
When it was built, some were using silicon. and the shims and tollerances are set up for NO GASKET. if you put gaskets in a non gasket case the clearances are larger...
if you use silicon on the gasket case, then the clearance are less....

Just use what it had.... not what you have...
