    EGR removal

There's been a few references lately to blanking off the EGR, removing it etc.

Have a look at this thread, particularly the Wiki quote on the second page

Outer Limits 4x4 Board :: View topic - blocking EGR valve/pipe on TD5's

FWIW I couldn't detect any difference whether connected or otherwise, I plugged mine back in.

Max, my understanding is that EGR was introduced primarily to reduce oxides of nitrogen (NOx) and a side effect is that it increases soot loading in the oil, hence the reason for newer/better diesel lubes in the past few years.

FWIW, all 300tdi's sold here came sans EGR (it was blanked off) whereas UK Disco's had EGR to comply to Euro II (i think) pollution controls.

    Agreed

that article points to how things have moved on, & modern engines are designed with EGR in mind. There's no benefit to blanking off.

other than reducing the soot loading, which can't be a bad thing.
I agree that mostly you'd be hard pressed to notice a difference.
Having said that, the TD5 is so damned efficient in burn, and with the centrifuge filter the soot levels at an equivalent mileage would still be below a 300Tdi.

the only time you notice the difference when pulling the EGR is when its not working correctly and recyling the exhaust gasses all the time.

Also if the MAF is not working properly, the EGR valve can still be open when it shouldn't be and cause poor throttle response.

You will - just give it time to build-up carbon in the inlet manifold and cause the MAP/IAT sensor to give erroneous readings, let alone the EGR valve not closing properly. Perhaps the valve is already not closing properly....

after taking mine it off and seeing what was inside it and going back into the engine you will agree that it is better with it blanked off

The EGR valves can start sticking after a while due to the soot. Try getting the valves for TDV6, so I'm going to blank mine off.
