    97 Disco Dash

Evening all, I've just bought a new Panasonic head unit for my Disco to replace the aftermarket pioneer thats in it at the moment. I'm wondering if the plastic insert that runs around the whole of the central area of the dash is a pop off job? I'm assuming once i get it off i'll have access to the head unit to be able to take it out.

    Cheers

    Shane

    From Memory,

I think if you insert some rods in to the holes you can remove the factory unit and Slide it out. You should be able to get an adapter for the factory ISO Leads so you don't need to cut the cars original harness, this is what I did on mine (JVC Head uhnit) and spliced in the new harness.

If you still need to remove the fascia:
    1. Remove Ashtray and Switches Below Clock (They should just slide out)
    2. Remove Little plastic Plate just below head unit (pry out with screwdriver I think)
    3. Undo all Screws (4 across Bottom and Two Below Head Unit)
    4. Disconnect face vent shut off levers. (these are a ***** to get back on)

    Hope this Helps

The head unit may have a slot/hole on each side to slide a tool (usually supplied with aftermarket units) into. This compresses the clips on the side of the unit and it 'should' then slide out. The plastic strip under the head unit can be removed (Labelled 8 in the diagram) - this may make it easier.

Removing the whole centre fascia is a pain. The plastic will have become brittle and crack if you aren't careful. There are screws hidden away behind the clip in sections such as the clock and ash tray. Unfortunately not a 'pop-out job'.

No need to remove any of the dash, just slide the old one out and new one in, if your loom hasnt been butchered already get an Aerpro iso adapter harness from Autobarn.

A short term 'tool' to remove the old head unit - use the hooked end off a suspension folder out of a filing cabinet (Metal ones - the plastic ones dont work)

Works perfectly - but they dont last long
