    disco v8 2003 trans

I am struggling with which trans I have on my 2003 v8 disco. The Rave disc shows something else other than mine. I believe that the 2003 received a different trans to other Disco 2 models. I have even looked at the pre 1999 manual and that has something else.
My main need is to try and fabricate a safe bracket to remove the trans etc. mainly to fix a leaking rear main seal. My fault it seems as I rebuilt the engine due to water/liners etc.
    Any ideas would be appreciated.
    Thanks

The only real difference is that the 03 has a diff lock - the main transfer case is the same

................and I already have a adaptor plate made up for removing the case - so if you want to borrow it - you are welcome

I will be in Melbourne next week, if you cant meet me at that time I will leave it at my office in Nunawading if you like

I'll keep trying to work it out but maybe I will need your plate anyway. Maybe we should meet up when you're in town , just in case?

    It gets worse

    Thanks for your input Lada.
I have now successfully fabricated an adaptor plate for the Trans. and TC.(as per the old book) The problem is that the book and Rave disc both suggest that it is possible to undo the bell-housing bolts after lowering the trannie. Of course it isn't possible as the firewall stops it, on this 2003 disco anyway. Any ideas, other than lowering the engine to suit. iwill try that if necessary but having the engine and trans hanging out doesn't really appeal.

Someone must have dealt with this surely....??

A way to get to the top bellhousing bolts is to drop out the engine mounts and sit the engine mount brackets on the chassis mounts with the rear mounts in place. This is the way you do it when removing the engine of an RRC anyway, and I think would be the same as they are the same bolts.LOL
Make sure to take off anything that will foul such as fan , shroud etc.

IMHO this is the easiest method, then you can reach the top BH bolts from above instead of under the car with a 1m extension on youre rachet !

Thats what I had in mind but while leaving the trans suspended on a motorcycle hoist which I have lying around. Take your point about the shroud and fan as I had almost decided to do just that. Another concern is the coils at the rear of the heads. Do you think they would need to come off?

    Thanks
