Well you "can" mount a winch directly onto the bar, as all the correct hole are there, but the one I fitted came with a cradle and who the **** winch's of their crush cans:eek: I wouldn't be, I've seen how easy they move:(
I agree , a mate hit a roo with his D1 with air bags , he has a ARB winch bar no winch , and the bar came back and hit the bonnet
Another mate has a D1 with air bags and a ARB winch bar with winch and the winch is mounted in a cradle between the rails :p
But yes both bars could have the winch mounted in the bar , silly i say:cool:
On the D2 the winch goes directly onto the bar without a cradle. Winching doesn't affect the crush cans at all, likewise neither does snatching. At least on the D2 the crush cans are pretty stiff. Mind you I've heard of a couple of people now that have hit roo'd at or near to 100km/h and the damage was nothing. Tombie just yesterday did this himself.
Anyway, seeming as this is D2 talk and the vehicle in question is a D1 it's all irrelevant really.
Sure did... Took the bugger out!
ARB crush cans are rated to over 15t...
The ARB bar has nothing but a small scuff and blood splatter...
ARB -1
Roo - 0
Stupid suicidal thing.
Oh, and for the record, I also snatch recover from my ARB bar.
Now if your talking the alloy, weak-as-water crush cans ala TJM bars.. Well yes, you NEED a cradle.
Mine is a T15 TJM STEEL bar. Ox9500 Winch is mounted directly to the bar. Apparently only the 12000Lb winches require the use of a cradle, simply because they are too big to fit inside the bar.
I was also told by both the dealer, and by TJM Geebung, that the bullbar eyelets mounted directly in front of the chassis rails are designed to recover from.
I dont have any airbags on the Disco. Thanks for all the replies. If i get time on the weekend it should me mounted and ready to use.I think next time i should look a little harder at where the mounting points are:p
Cheers
Chris
I could well be wrong but isn't that bumper the ARB Descrete winch mount type?
It certainly looks like it.... I have exactly the same on my Discovery.
Mine doesn't have air bags but I needed a cradle to mount the winch. There was no other way of doing it that I could see.

Hi, according to my ARB parts catalouge you'll need the winch installation kit:
Part 3500050 $52.50
Cheers,
Tim
Same bar as this one (although this was lifted 2")

Winch bolted direct to front of bar... (12000lb MileMarker)

Close Up (Had to grind a void for solonoids to fit on left)

Heavy Duty "RUD" recover points inline with chassis rail each side...
Heavy plate washer behind each one!

Hope that helps
