    SRS Light (Disco 1 V8)

Now, before anyone says "Search is your friend" or anything similar I'd like to point out that search wasn't my friend this time (it normally is though) which is why I am asking for help...

The SRS light on my 1997 Disco V8 has come on and is now staying on all the time.

Can I reset it? If so, how?

Or, suspecting the answer to the above will be a "No.", how much can I expect to be bumraped by Graeme Coopers's or whoever to get it fixed?

When I had my D1, it happened to me and it was caused by a broken connection in the rotary coupler on the steering col.

I did try to repair mine - but to no avail, so I bought a new one (I think there is one on e-bay at the moment)

You can test it - but you need to remove it from the col first - and also follow the instructions (disconnect battery and wait 15 mins to eliminate the remote chance of setting the airbags off)

When you have it removed just test the resistance between each connection

If you dont know what the rotary coupler is - its a 'cassette' that holds a spiral wound ribbon cable with all the connections to the steering wheel - horn, air bag - later models have the cruise - radio controls etc.,

On the D2's another source of this problem is the SRS seat belt tensioners - the connections under the seats become loose with the seat being moved back and forth.

    Hope this helps

Have you changed battery or had a low battery. As the most common SRS fault I fund is low voltage fault, which will just need a good charged battery and get it cleared....which we normally don't charge our regular customers for that.

Doesn't matter what you guess the fault is you will have to get it plugged in to find out. Spiral cassette don't fail that often and for the price of them I wouldn't replace it just for a guess diagnoses.

Hint to every one if any the warning lights ie TC ABS SRS Autobox...get it plugged in befor eyou do anything as your only wasting your time and money on guessing the fault...and that what it is without a computer.
