Hey All,
I'm wondering if it is possible to safely snatch or winch from one of the OE Bull bars shown here...
It has two eyelets on either side of the plates that bolt onto the chassis. These are circled in blue. [The bar doesn't join where the vertical pipes end.]
I have been checking out how the bar is attached and it seems fairly solid but i'm unwilling to try it in case all hell brakes lose.
It doesn't bolt direct to the chassis but bolted to a large bracket [circled in blue] which is then bolted to the chassis rails [circled in red].
Bracing the chassis rails and bolting to either side of the large brackets in a big pipe [circled in blue] which seems to be offering stabitlity to the bar and chassis.
So what is the final verdict?? Does anyone think i can safely winch or snatch from this bar. [I'd also like to hear from people who have done so...]
Many Thanks in advance
CaptJimmy

If you have a good look at the mounts for the bar, you will see that they are actually above the "recovery" points you are looking at.
If you snatch or tow from them, the bar will pivot on the mounts and drive the top of the bar into the bonnet.
That's not a bullbar it's a "brushguard".
No, wouldn't advise winching and definitely don't snatch using those points.
It is likely to cause damage to your vehicle or worse, a person.
I speak from experience, from when I first got my Disco with the same bar, and didn't have the collective wisdom of this forum.
You "might" be able to get away with light winching using a bridle between the two points.
There are properly made aftermarket recovery points you can buy. Most aftermarket LR specialists will be able to get them for you - you're in Sydney maybe give Graeme Cooper a call.
There are quite a few video's on youtube of those types of bar being 'removed' (very quickly) when trying to use them for snatching.
As Wayne said there are quite a few 'proper' recover/snatch points available.
After spending quite a lot of time looking at this, (I spent a weekend away and discovered I had no snatch strap attachment), and asking Main Dealers, my service garage, and ARB, I came to a number of conclusions
1. this bar is mainly for cosmetic purposes
2. getting attachments fitted by someone else would be difficult – difficult, risk, etc
I have now just fitted some Recovery Brackets (Troutbeck Sales Troutbeck Sales & Services) with a slightly longer length to allow then to clear the bar and the plastic trim. These are either 10 or 12mm thick steel from memory.
These are mounted onto that bracket that comes off the chassis rail. The people at Troutbeck say I need a bridle with a minimum 2m length away from the vehicle, and that both brackets should always be used.
At the same time as I was fitting these brackets, I also found that the bar is actually only held on with 1 bolt either side, which explained why the bar never felt very rigid. There are 2 bolts on the bar, but 1 was not used. I tried to slide the bar further back so I could fit both bolts and the bar would be more rigidly mounted, but the bar then fouls on the plastic trim. So what I have now is Recovery Bracket to Chassis Bracket by 2 high tensile bolts, and nudge bar to Chassis bracket by 1 high tensile bolt (same bolt as 1 for the Recovery Bracket)
I aim to mark and drill the Recovery Bracket for the nudge bar so that I can get a bit more rigidity, but any recovery work will be done off the Recovery Brackets.
I also needed to cut some of the trim to allow access for spanners but using a Dremel this can be done fairly neatly.
Hope this helps
Simon
Hell no, i could lean on it and push it in, get some jate rings or some properly mounted hooks or better bar.

Well , you answered a question I have had about the same nudge bar as well.
Weak as, I had an issue with my driving lights deciding to point at possums even though I had lined them up properly. Just happened to push on the bar one day and discovered that the only thing holding it there was tradition.
The bar had broken away from the brackets that attach to the chassis.
I would like to get an ARB bar but the ongoing cost of keeping this thing on the road has kept that option closed for some time. So I took the bar off and welded it back on and strengthened the mounting area around the bottom pipe.
So far so good.
Better off with something like this if you don't want to replace your bar.

Definately NO!!!!!!!
The mounting braket in blue has an elongated hole for adjustment. So that's the week point already.
It's similar to the Discover nudge bars, . I dragged something from mine and the bolts slowly slid along the the gap in the bracket and started to slowly swivel towards the bonnet.
